What the HR Network Group learnt in 2017

2017 was another great year for the HR Network Group with fantastic, high profile speakers leading informative sessions for the group. From leadership strategies to innovative approaches to diversity, the HR Network covered it all. In February, we launched the HR Network Group with our first Sydney CBD event at the Four Seasons Sydney. We were lucky enough to have Gordon Williams, Partner and Human Resources & Industrial Relations at Minter Ellison as our guest speaker. Gordon, a leading employment lawyer, shared his expertise on a full range of employment, human resources and industrial relations issues. Whilst also giving the group market leading insights in employee benefit arrangements and related corporate governance issues.

In May, the HR Network Group in Melbourne hosted a breakfast at the RACV club. Our speaker Annabelle Kirwan shared  insights on changes in the NFP/NGO sector and the need to be more commercial. Whilst in Sydney, Fiona Monfrooy, Executive Director of Human Resources at ING Direct gave an insight into the everyday work experience and the "People Promise" at ING.

During that same month in Brisbane, Allan English, Founder and Non Executive Chairman of Silverchef shared a comprehensive account of how he started the business and his journey to philanthropy. A journey he took his company along on, with a fully engaged workforce and a supportive group of clients.

This was followed in July by Barb Hyman Executive GM of People & Culture of REA.com sharing how values and purpose are important to attract and engage talent in the digital tech world.

In August, Olivia Cunney-Walsh , Head of Talent Management & Diversity at CBRE at our third Executive HR Network Group for 2017 last week. Olivia presented a discussion about Talent and Diversity from a local and Asia Pacific perspective.

In November, we held our North Ryde HR Network Group session with Tanja Van Heerden, NRMA’s GM Culture, Leadership and Talent who delivered an informative presentation on taking a leader led approach to culture change at NRMA.
